“Monument” Selected for Photo Fringe ECO – Open Exhibition in Brighton
I’m very pleased to announce that “Monument”, one of the photographs from
Chernobyl Series, has been selected for ECO – Open, part of Photo Fringe 2026 in Brighton, UK.
The exhibition brings together 20 photographs by international photographers and will be presented as an outdoor exhibition at Seafront Gallery in Brighton from 5 October to 15 November 2026.
From Chernobyl to Brighton
I photographed Monument in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in 2019, during my visit to the area more than three decades after the nuclear disaster.
The Chernobyl Series explores the traces left behind when people disappear from a place. Abandoned buildings, objects and monuments become witnesses to a human presence that is no longer there. At the same time, nature slowly takes over, creating an unsettling contrast between decay, memory and renewal.
For me, Monument is part of this exploration. It is not simply a photograph of a place connected to one of the world's worst nuclear disasters. It is also an image about memory — and about how places and objects can continue to carry stories long after the people who created them are gone.

Part of an international exhibition
Having the photograph included in ECO – Open is particularly meaningful because the work is now being placed in a new context, alongside photographs by artists from around the world.
The exhibition focuses on photography and our relationship with the environment, making it a fitting setting for a work created in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone — a landscape where the consequences of human intervention are impossible to ignore.
It is also exciting to see Monument move from the remote landscape of Chernobyl into the public space of Brighton.
I’m grateful to Photo Fringe and everyone involved with the ECO – Open exhibition for selecting the work and giving it an opportunity to reach a new audience.
