“Monument” Featured by The Guardian Among the Best of Photoworks Festival 2026

“Monument”, from Chernobyl Series, has been selected by The Guardian as one of the standout images from Photoworks Festival 2026 in Brighton.
The photograph was taken in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in 2019, inside the unfinished cooling tower of Chernobyl Reactor 5. A tree has taken root inside the enormous concrete structure — nature slowly reclaiming a place built by humans.
The Guardian describes it as “a monument to life.”

Monument is currently part of ECO – Open, an outdoor exhibition featuring 20 international photographers at Seafront Gallery in Brighton, running from 5 October to 15 November 2026.
It’s a great recognition for the photograph and for the Chernobyl Series to be included in The Guardian’s selection of highlights from the festival.
