Reflections on the "Chernobyl Series" Vernissage

Oppdatert: 1. des. 2023

I'm thrilled to share the experience of our "Chernobyl Series" vernissage with you. It was a night of profound exploration, where we dove into the relationship between time, humanity, and the enduring power of nature.

Unveiling the "Chernobyl Series"

This project began with my journeys through Norwegian forests, sparking my curiosity about the passage of time in contrast to nature's ever-changing beauty. The "Chernobyl Series" challenges our concept of stillness, contrasting the peaceful forest with the unstoppable metamorphosis that occurs within it.

The Echo of Chernobyl

At the heart of this series lies Chernobyl, Ukraine – a place where nature reclaimed its space in the absence of humans. The Chernobyl disaster of 1986 serves as a poignant example of human arrogance, leaving a vast area, including Pripyat, uninhabitable for centuries.

Nature's Triumph

These photos capture a remarkable transformation. In just 40 years, nature has reasserted itself. Trees have broken through concrete, buildings have become nature's canvas, and roads have vanished beneath a dense forest. Raindrops contribute to the relentless decay of a city, a reminder of our limited control over time's passage.

A Humbling Perspective

Through my work, I aim to remind us of our fleeting presence in the grand tapestry of life on Earth. We were once humble in the face of nature, and perhaps it's time we embrace that humility once more.

The Vernissage

The "Chernobyl Series" vernissage was a night of reflection and wonder. It urged us to appreciate nature's unstoppable transformations and to recognize our place in the intricate balance of life on Earth. Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Photos: Tommy Ho
